Davenport High, Johnson Ranch Elementary Receive 'Extraordinary Environment' Awards for Cleanliness

May 27, 2021 - Two Comal ISD campuses were awarded “Extraordinary Environment” awards for their cleanliness throughout the school year on Wednesday by GermBlast, a company which disinfects schools.

Both Davenport High School and Johnson Ranch Elementary School received this award for their low adenosine triphosphate (ATP) averages. ATP is an energy-carrying molecule found in the cells of all living things. Since it is present in all living cells, the testing of ATP is a way to identify dirt and bacteria that may be present on various surfaces.

“It really takes the entire campus including custodial staff, nurses, teachers and students to maintain this level cleanliness,” said GermBlast account manager Heath Herrington, who delivered plaques along with a special meal to each campus.

While the threshold for an ATP average is 200, said Herrington, these two campuses had averages of 50 which is close to being as clean as an operating room. In fact, all Comal ISD campuses were below the 200-average mark with most falling below 150.

A few of the custodial team members who were on hand to accept the awards include the following: Damaris Ochoa Santiago, Maria De Lourdes Iglesias, Raymond Garcia, Patricia Rodriguez Zuniga, Irma De Gomez, Cristina Coy and David Garcia.

Congratulations!
