The hills surrounding Comal ISD are truly alive this season with music. From choir and band performances to orchestra and string classes, students of all ages are showcasing what they’ve learned over the last four months.
Whether they’ve been practicing before school, during school or after school – and everywhere in between – budding and experienced musicians are displaying their talents this holiday season for parents and the community to enjoy.
Don’t be surprised to hear one of the District’s 18 elementary school choirs and numerous bands and ensembles representing the District’s seven middle and three high schools this season when you are out and about celebrating with family and friends. They may be found in New Braunfels for Wassailfest or in San Antonio at a fun run and everywhere in between.
Kicking off the holiday season with a bang and showcasing the District’s strings’ program, Indian Springs Elementary music teacher Venessa Sloan featured choir and strings performances at Gracie’s Annual Christmas PJ Fun Run followed by evening performances at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa. The Specht Elementary strings’ class was also featured at the resort.
Additionally, Gracie’s 6th Annual Christmas PJ Fun Run was founded by Gracie Walker, a fifth grader at Indian Springs. The event is free and only asks participants to donate an unwrapped present for a child from birth to 18. All donations are given to St. PJ’s Children’s Home in San Antonio. More than 150 gifts were donated this year.
